What is life all about?
The Alpha course looks at this question and the big questions in life. It is designed for people who aren't churchgoers and each course is open to everyone who would like to attend.
As a course, Alpha attracts a diverse range
of guests of different ages and backgrounds, holding
many different viewpoints. Over 7,000 churches are
currently running the Alpha course across the UK
in rural and urban settings, including every major
UK city.
People find out about the Alpha course in a number
of ways - a recommendation from a friend, a poster,
flyer, newspaper article or advert, or through the
website or an internet search.
Guests do Alpha for a wide variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples' beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. The Alpha Course is a nationally run course (www.uk.alpha.org) in many churches. It began in the 1970’s in Holy Trinity Church, Brompton, London before spreading internationally in the 1990’s with the help of the Holy Trinity pastor, Nicky Gumbel.
The course is particularly tailored for non-Christians wanting to know more about Jesus but the course is open to EVERYONE. If you’d like to brush up on the ‘basics’ discover the answer to questions you have, we’d love to see you along.
The course is completely FREE and whether you can make it every week or just for a few of the weeks, you are under no obligation to regularly attend. Come along and attend one of our sessions and if you’d like to return, we’d love to see you back!
Our discussions each week cover the following topics:
A typical evening lasts about one and a half hours and includes some light refreshments, an interesting talk and a lively discussion. People are welcome to voice any opinion as long as they are also willing to listen to others. The Alpha Course is always a great night out!
