Make a connection
Christianity should be cool, happening and relevant
to everyday life. Being firmly in the mainstream of Christian
Churches, we also want our meetings to be accessible
to people with little or no church connection - and most
people love a tea or a coffee! Eldon Leisure, in Eldon
Square (view
map) gives a warm, relaxed environment to discuss
and explore the teachings of Jesus Christ.
What
can I expect?
It's an action packed hour with looking at what the
Bible says about how tvo live life to the full, with
the opportunity to go or socialise at the end.
Starting with drinks, we catch up on what people have
been up to, then look at some discussion questions as
a way into looking at God’s Word. Its always a
lively time with people throwing in comments, questions
and a bit of general mayhem as we work towards what God
has to say to us. If you want a formal or religious meeting
you may find us quite relaxed! You don’t have to
say anything if you don’t want to and if you have
to dash off at the end its cool. In practice we find
people who come with no intension of joining in can’t
help be caught up in the great atmosphere and enjoy expressing
their opinions. Some recent comments from people coming
along have included:
“Its so friendly”
“These are some of the warmest people I’ve
ever met”
“I never thought it would be this fun”
“When I tell my friends I went to church on Sunday
they can’t believe it and said ‘I didn’t
think you were a church kind of person.’ But
I just really enjoy coming.”
There is an opportunity for individual prayer at the
end of each meeting, and we have seen God heal and help
people, sometimes in dramatic ways.
If you’ve got kids they’ll love the music
stuff and then have a time together to give the adults
space to enjoy “their bit” of the meeting,
before all coming together at the end. If you need to
go with your kids to help them “settle in” and
make sure they’re comfortable that’s fine.
People will often want to “do lunch” afterwards
or go and explore some culture in the city, or maybe
catch some Sunday afternoon football.....
Who's
going?
Students, singles, couples and kids - people from all
walks of life are coming along. As we grow we are starting
to see the diversity of Newcastle’s vibrant city
life reflected in a multifaceted multi cultural church
- Why not come and see if this is for you?
What’s your plan?
Growth is top of God’s agenda, and we aim to fill
this venue and spread out using the Metro line as the
connecting link to build multiple meetings across the
region. There are 53 Metro Stations - we eventually want
to see a church or group meeting at each one, plus a
network fanning out along the bus routes. We want to
grow big and grow small - so that people have great personal
links but also can come together and enjoy large celebrations.
What are you into?
We
are part of a Destiny network of churches - see their
websites at this link: www.destiny-church.com.
There is also a weekly Housegroup for people to meet
up, find friends and help from the Bible. There are also
great social events to tap into ....
